The West Finchley Pre School - Performing Art Studio

Our musical curriculum is a core element of our unique curriculum at our school. Whilst many of our children will be familiar with modern music, we focus on a range of genres, such as classical music, jazz, world music, singing and nursery rhymes, here at The West Finchley Preschool. Our curriculum engages children through music recognition, movement, pitch, rhythm, performance and group activities.

We provide a wide range of activities, such as playing percussion instruments and singing a wide range of different songs. Our children learn about composers and how to recognise the works of particular composers. In addition to the many planned musical activities, we also invite musicians into the nursery to perform for our children and take them out on trips to hear musicians perform, specifically for children of our age groups.

The Performing Art Studio is space used for everything from music and movement to drama and dance.

We are very fortunate at The West Finchley Preschool, as our art studio is spacious with a mirrored ballet bar, a stage and sufficient space to move around freely. Our music teacher is able to play the keyboard at a high level and is also a qualified dance teacher, as well as a former gymnast. Our children have music played to and for them on the keyboard and a varied range of pre-recorded music that is available on our Sonos system for them to experience.

Parents are invited to join in and watch their children in studio performances at least twice a year. This enables children to build confidence and self -esteem, to prepare them for performing at school assemblies and school plays.
